최병철 교수는 기술경영 및 기술혁신 분야의 전문가이다.

현재 한국벤처창업학회 회장을 맡고 있으며, 공학적 사고방식, 실리콘밸리에서의 경험, 그리고 경영학자로서의 연구를 바탕으로, 기술을 경쟁력의 원천으로 삼는 기업들을 대상으로 활발히 연구하고, 강연하며, 자문 및 프로젝트를 수행하고 있다.

기술경영 및 기술혁신 전략과 관련하여 Research Policy, Organization Science, Journal of International Business Studies 등 세계적으로 권위 있는 학술지에 다수의 논문을 게재하였으며, 기업의 혁신 전략을 다룬 박사학위 논문은 미국제품개발협회(PDMA)로부터 혁신 분야 우수 박사논문 Top 20에 선정되기도 하였다.
