The Master's Program has 12 departments covering every area of the world. Students major in one of the four social fields of politics, economics, society, and culture or development cooperation. The curriculum focuses on theoretical and analytical skills, language mastery, and practical knowledge necessary to excel in the professional world. Candidates write a faculty-supervised Master’s thesis in either English or their regional specialty language.

General Requirements for Master’s Programs
Master Degree Requirements
- A minimum of 40 credit hours (45 credits for U-PEACE) as advised by the program supervisor with a minimum grade point average of 3.00 out of the maximum of 4.50 points
- Two years (four semesters) of residence for coursework
* Three years (six semesters) for Integrated MA/PhD - Proficiency test in the foreign language (Foreign Language Proficiency Exam)
- A thesis written under the supervision of an advisory professor in the department
- Oral defense of the thesis conducted under a committee of 3 professors
Duration of Coursework: 2 years
Maximum Stay of School Years: 3 years (Any absence is not counted in)
Credits required for Completion: 40 credits minimum (45 credits for U-PEACE)
Credits per Semester: Minimum of 3 credits to the maximum of 15 credits
Acknowledgement of Credits
-Credits of only no lower than B° (3.0) are acknowledged;but, credits for specific subjects are acknowledged if achieved over C°
Guidelines on Temporary Absence
- A student can be temporarily absent for up to 5 years in each program, and the frequency of absence is not limited.
(*Absence for military service is not counted in) - A student who is to be absent for military service should enclose a copy of military warrant and hand it to the administration office.
Foreign Language Proficiency Requirement
- Students have to pass the foreign language proficiency test for the successful completion of their studies.
- The test is held twice a year for students who have registered for more than one semester. Students who fail the test can retake it. There is no limit to the number of times the test may be taken but application fees are applied for retaking the test.

Exemptions for other subjects
*On/Off-line application for exemption and submission of relevant documents required.- Native Speaker of English or their major-relevant regional language can obtain an exemption as appropriate.
- Master students who have obtained A°or A+ from major-relevant regional language courses can get exemption for their major-relevant regional language test.
- Master's and Doctoral students who achieved test scores as per the table above can get exemption for General English.

- Oral defense of the dissertation conducted under a committee of 5 professors
