About
The Institute of Indian Studies was established in March 1995 to conduct comprehensive and structural research on India and the South Asia as the interest and need for research on the region was growing. Since 2000, the institute has participated in research projects funded by National Research Foundation of Korea (NRF) and has established a basis for interdisciplinary research on Indian studies. In 2007, it was selected as an institute with good prospects for Humanities Korea (HK), enabling to develop specialized researchers on Indian and the South Asian studies and to interact with national and international institutes. In November 2017, the Institute of Indian Studies was awarded the Humanities Korea Plus (HK+) project grant from the NRF to conduct research on the agenda titled "Great transition in India: A Korean perspective on Indian studies - Establishing global institute for Indian Studies." The institute aims to strengthen research capacity on India and South Asia and to promote the social proliferation of research results.
The Institute of Indian Studies currently publishes South Asia Studies registered on NRF four times a year and the English-language The Journal of Indian and Asian Studies twice a year.
